We open our doors at 7:00 am and close at 6:00 pm. Early drop off is available at 6:30 am for an additional fee.

For Infants - Please provide the following items: • Diapers, (one sleeve at least if possible) • Wipes (at least two packs) and preferred creams (if any) needed for the week • Pacifier(s) • Child's blanket or stuffed toy, especially if needed for nap times • 2 changes of clothing (at least) • Bibs • Bottles with milk or formula (and instructions for servings/times) • Any desired food if other than milk or formula • Any medications if necessary (a medical release form will be provided) For Potty-Training Toddlers - Please provide the following items: • Diapers, pull-ups (one sleeve at least if possible) • Wipes (at least two packs - these are for diaper changes for the week and for face, hands and end of day clean up. We do not provide these, or share with other children due to possible skin sensitivities.) • Preferred creams (if any) needed for the week • 2 changes of clothing (at least), including underwear if they are already using them in training • Mat, blanket, pillow napper. All pieces must be connected to one another. Please ask if you need any references. Search “Nappers for Kids” on amazon for examples. Nappers can be left in your child’s cubby each day with their name on it and taken home on Fridays to be washed. *Cots provided. • Sunscreen, mosquito spray, hat etc. (if needed for outdoor time. No. We supply the cribs and the sheets. We also have an on-site laundry room and can wash any time there is an accident.

We ask that you pick your child up before we close at 6:00 pm. There is a late pickup charge of $5 per minute after 6:00 pm.

We ask that you drop your child off before 10:00 am o prevent disturbances with lunch, nap or any other classroom activities. If you have a doctor's appointment, please communicate with the director to communicate appropriate drop off times for your situation.

Infant classes have two nap times. One from 9 am - 11 am and another from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Walking infants and preschool classes have one nap time. It begins at 11:30 am, and they wake up at 1:30 pm.

At Great Oaks Learning Center, the safety, supervision, and individual attention of every child are among our highest priorities. While we are not required to follow Alabama DHR licensing ratios, we intentionally structure our classrooms to closely align with—and often exceed—those standards. Our staffing levels vary based on enrollment and daily attendance, allowing us to provide appropriate supervision while maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment. In many cases, we operate with more teachers than required for the number of children present. Additionally, our directors regularly assist in classrooms throughout the day, providing extra support during transitions, activities, meals, and other times when additional hands are beneficial. Below is a comparison of Alabama's recommended ratios and our typical classroom staffing: Alabama DHR Licensed Child Care Ratios: Teacher assignments may vary based on daily attendance. When enrollment in a classroom is lower, teachers may be reassigned to classrooms with greater needs. Directors and leadership staff also provide classroom support throughout the day as needed.

Great Oaks Learning Center has the responsibility and authority to maintain a respectful and productive learning environment. Staff members seek positive opportunities to encourage good  behavior, character and self-discipline in the children. Routine disciplinary matters will be  handled as follows:   - Positive coaching and correction with the teacher  - Redirection of behavior to a better choice or option  - Separation from other students for an age appropriate time  - Coaching and correction with the Director

You are welcome to prepare your child's bottles in the way that works best for your family. Some families send bottles pre-made and ready to serve, which we store safely in the refrigerator until needed. Others provide pre-measured formula and bottled water for our teachers to prepare on-site according to their instructions. Our goal is to follow your child's feeding routine as closely as possible while providing safe and attentive care throughout the day.

Yes! We have both a refrigerator and microwave available for food storage and meal preparation. Families are welcome to send lunches cold, pre-prepared, or with items that require heating. Our staff will follow any instructions provided to help ensure your child's meal is served safely and appropriately.

Yes. We can administer medication when necessary; however, a Medication Authorization Form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian before any medication can be given. The form must include the medication name, dosage instructions, and any other required information. All medications must be provided in their original container and clearly labeled with the child's name.

The safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority. Great Oaks Learning Center utilizes multiple layers of security, supervision, and accountability to help provide a safe and nurturing environment for every child in our care. During operating hours, our lobby doors remain unlocked to allow families to enter and exit the facility. However, access to the learning center itself is protected by secure doors at every entrance leading to the children's areas. Only authorized staff members and approved individuals have access beyond these secured entry points. For added security, Ring cameras are installed in the lobby, and our facility is equipped with a comprehensive video surveillance system that provides coverage throughout the building, including every classroom, hallway, playground, and parking area. Live camera feeds are monitored from the Director's Office, and additional surveillance monitors are located in the hallway, allowing multiple members of our leadership team to maintain awareness of daily classroom activities and provide an extra layer of oversight. We also utilize Brightwheel, our secure childcare management platform, for all child check-ins and check-outs. Parents, guardians, and any authorized pickup individuals must use the Brightwheel app to sign children in and out. Each check-in and check-out requires a time-stamped digital signature, creating a secure electronic record of who dropped off or picked up a child and when. For the safety of our children, even grandparents, relatives, or other approved family members must download and use the Brightwheel app before they can complete the check-in or check-out process. In addition to video surveillance and controlled access, children are supervised by teachers at all times, and only individuals authorized by a parent or guardian may pick up a child. Our team follows established safety procedures, classroom accountability measures, and emergency response protocols designed to create a secure environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive with confidence.
